Before Papa died, he was able to be Abby's confirmation sponsor. They held a ceremony at the hospice. And then this week Mom completed the work at church.
Here they are with Mema. She gave them both beautiful butterfly necklaces as a confirmation gift.

At Papa's funeral the funeral director gave each of us a butterfly pin to wear. And then he told us about the incredible journey that the monarch butterfly takes each year as it migrates 2500 miles to warmer climates, always to the same exact place.
The thing is, it takes more than one generation of butterflies to complete the migration. Each year it takes four generations of butterflies to make the trip. So how do these new generations know where to go? The previous generations provide the insight, the information and the experience to know the path.
It's all about family. Each of us is set on the path by those who came before. Mom and Pops started it and they passed it down to all six of their children who are now passing it down to Katie and Abby and eleven other grandchildren.
Look at them. Aren't they beautiful?

Papa is smiling on us all.
