Howlin'

Here's Doreen at the helm of Howlin,' a fitting name for a new boat belonging to Doreen and Brian Howell. This weekend they took all of us out on a great sail to Beverly Cove. The boat is FAST! We anchored in the cove and had lunch. Doreen and I only dipped out feet in. But Bob and Brian dove in for a swim and got out pretty quick....brrrrrrrrrrr! The boys, of course, had a blast.

Dave's World

Dave summed up his life so well and so succinctly on his new blog:

"Create, relate, debate & fish.
Great deals on arguments."

Plus he called me a technology goddess, so his blog is on my hit list.

No one...I mean no one...can catch fish or make art like Dave. So, I know his blog will be one-of-a-kind too.

No Go

So we've spent the better part of a year getting ourselves emotionally prepared for moving to San Francisco. Then we spent the last 2-3 months getting ourselves physically prepared for moving to San Francisco.

And then we did something radical. We called it off.

Why? Because the timing is wrong. Bob's company had their funding delayed, the stars were no longer aligned perfectly. The risk was too great to take the leap. So we've postponed the move.

It's really weird. We even have a phone number and an address out there as of August 1st. And now we're un-doing everything. Taking the house off the market, cancelling our lease in Mill Valley. All of it.

We're experiencing a strange combination of depression and happiness. Sigh. I guess everything happens for a reason...I guess we'll just have to see what the reason will be.

Da Sox

There's nothing like a night at Fenway Park...

...with your son.

They lost. But it was a great game.

Pictures

I decided to give Flickr a try. Take a look at the right side of the blog. -->

Click on any of the photos in the black box and you'll go to my Flickr Photos page. View a slide show. I just uploaded the Rochester pics.

And the pictures of the day we spent with Barb, Dan and Dan and Alicia. It was great to meet Alicia.

Sky Falling

The big dig is your every tunnel nightmare come true. First it costs $14.6 billion dollars. Then it leaks.

And then last night a 12-ton section of roof fell on a car and killed a 38- year-old woman and nearly killed her husband.

After reading about this tragedy I settle in to do some writing for a client that makes little avatars you can use in IMs and email. They kind of look like South Park characters and they're funny little buggers.

Anyhow, I'm writing a bunch of copy for the web site describing the things the avatars do. And it turns out that stuff keeps happening to the avatar's heads - they get chopped off, eaten by sharks, dropped on by a 1 ton weight, zapped by lightning. And it's pretty funny and I'm having a grand time.

Until I realize I'm writing all kinds of copy about stuff falling on heads or being otherwise flung out of the sky...which is exactly what just tragically happened in real life to a poor unsuspecting family going through the tunnel on the way to the airport.

And just then there is this really violent thunder and lightning storm. And I'm rushing around closing windows. And then it starts to hail. And I mean HAIL, with hail stones that are 2-3 inches in diameter. They're just punching out of the sky.

They hurt when they hit you on the head as you're trying to take a picture for the blog.

Weird day.

Truro

We're "down the Cape" for a few days visiting Mike and Rosemary in their beautiful beach house overlooking Provincetown and having a well-deserved break. After making it through a few harrowing deadlines at work, I'm way behind on chronicling a few significant events...pictures of our trip to Rochester and some thoughts about our 20th Anniversary. But don't worry I'll catch up. But right now all I'm catching is a breather!
